22                     Swachh Bharat Abhiyan








            The  ‘Swachh  Bharat  Abhiyan’  campaign  was  debuted  on  2nd  of
            October, 2014 by the prime minister Narendra Modi.


                                                       The  campaign aimed to achieve the target

                                                       of ‘Clean India’ upto 2nd October 2019, on
                                                       the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi Ji.


                                                       It is the largest cleanliness program by the
                                                       Indian Government.


                                                       The  government  has  launched  an  app,
                                                       naming, ‘Swachhta’ to make people aware

                                                       and  contribute  to  make  their  city  clean

                                                       and hygienic.

            The  government  has  successfully  achieved  the  construction  of  30,74,

            229 individual toilets, 2,26,274 community and public toilets.

            Top  five  cities  in  Swachhta  Survekshan  2017  are  Indore,  Bhopal,

            Visakhapatnam, Surat and Mysuru.

            Amitabh  Bachchan,  Kiran  Bedi,  Sachin  Tendulkar,  Kailash  Kher,

            Salman Khan, Baba Ramdev, Juhi Chawla, Shankar Mahadevan, Jwala
                                                           Gupta  and  Deepa  Malik  are  the  brand

                                                           ambassadors of this campaign.

                                                           Gandhiji  planned  ‘Clean  India’  a  place

                                                           where cleaning would not be the work

                                                           of  certain  group  of  people.  Therefore,
                                                           Mr  Narendra  Modi  selected  his

                                                           birthday for this campaign and decided

                                                           to tribute him a Clean India on his 150th
                                                           birth anniversary.
