Water Pollution

Harmful chemical wastes from homes and factories, fertilizers, pesticides,
sewage and dead bodies make the water impure and unfit for drinking. This
is called water pollution and the substances which cause pollution are

called pollutants.
Causes of Water Pollution

g Throwing dead bodies in water.

g Oil spilled by ships and tankers.

g Discharge of industrial wastes in water.

g Washing clothes on the river banks.

g Discharge of domestic wastes in water bodies.
Effects of Water Pollution

When polluted water is used by animals or human beings directly or
indirectly —

g It can cause diseases like typhoid, cholera, jaundice and diarrhoea, etc.
