“I must get back quickly,” said Andy, “or my master will kill me.”
“I am glad to hear it,” the postmaster said and went on with his work. Andy had to wait
for a long time. Soon his eyes caught a heap of letters lying on the counter. When no one

was looking, Andy quickly removed two letters from the heap and put them into his pocket.

At last, the postmaster turned to Andy and said, “Here is Mr Egan’s letter. Give me eleven
pence, please.” Andy paid the money and got the letter. Then he rode back to the village.
“Look at this!” he said, standing before Mr Egan and holding three letters up. “The man

took eleven pence of your money, but I have brought you three letters, not one!.”
