Affirmation and Negation
Declarative, interrogative and imperative sentences can be affirmative (positive) or negative.
For example:
Affirmative declarative: The flight has just arrived.
Negative declarative: I don’t have the answer to your question.
Affirmative interrogative: Have you booked your tickets?
Negative interrogative: Aren’t you going to call your sister?
Affirmative imperative: Please switch on the light.
Negative imperative: Don’t go around barefoot.
B. Rewrite the following negative sentences or affirmative sentences without changing
their meaning.
1. No member of their family was present at the wedding.
2. Sushma does not earn as much as Shalini.
3. Rahul does not play as well as peter.
4. We did not find the concert interesting.
5. The table is not light enough to be lifted.
6. The tea is so hot that I cannot drink it.
7. The evening was so cold that we couldn’t go out.
C. Underline the verbs in the following sentences and write the tenses to which they belong.
