of me. For example, a puppy grows into a
dog, a male child grows into a man.

grow due to cell division within the body. In
single cell organisms growth occur only in
the size of the cell but non-living things do
not grow on this. This size may increase
when we add more material to them.

Living things have the ability to produce
more of their kind through reproduc on.
Different organisms have different means of
reproduc on. Plants reproduce mostly
through seeds. Animals reproduce by either
laying eggs or giving birth to their young
ones.
All kinds of birds, insects and rep les lay eggs.
Feeding
All living beings take food to get energy.
They use this energy to carry on their life
processes and to do other kinds of
ac vities. Plants prepare their food on their
own through the process of photosynthesis.
Therefore, plants are called autotrophs. On
the other hand, animals depend on plants
or plant ea ng animals for food. Therefore,
they are called heterotrophs.
Respira on
Respira on is another important chara-
cteris c of all living beings. During the
process of respira on, we take in air which
reaches the lungs, lungs take in oxygen,
