4 2
divide the numerator and denominator of by 2, we can get . So, we have to follow
8 4
these methods of finding equivalent fractions of a given fraction.
F To find an equivalent fraction, multiply the numerator and denominator of the
fraction by the same non-zero number.
F To find an equivalent fraction, divide the numerator and denominator of the
fraction by the same non-zero number which is a factor of both.
In order to get more than one equivalent fraction for a given fraction, we can build
equivalent fractions through multiples. To do so, we find the required number of
multiples of the numerator and denominator and arrange them as fractions.
2
Example : Find an equivalent fraction of .
3
2
Solution : We multiply the numerator and denominator of by 2.
3
2 × 2 4
=
3 × 2 6
4 2
Hence, is an equivalent fraction of .
