            Looking Back

            We already know that —

« Division is a method of repeated subtraction.

« The number to be divided is called the dividend .

« The number with which we divide is called the divisor .

« The answer we get is called the quotient .

« The part of the dividend which remains undivided is called the remainder .

« Every division has two multiplication facts.

            1. Write the two multiplication facts for each of the following.
                 a. 36 ÷ 4 = 9 b. 63 ÷ 7 = 9

                 c. 72 ÷ 12 = 6 d. 99 ÷ 11 = 9

            2. Write the quotient using multiplication table.
                 a 304 ÷ 4 . b 125 ÷ 5 . c 48 ÷ 6 . d 63 ÷ 7 .

                 e 135 ÷ 9 . f 584 ÷ 8 . g 224 ÷ 7 . h 48 ÷ 4.

            3. Find the quotient and the remainder.

                 a 272 ÷ 7 . b 155 ÷ 4 . c 82 ÷ 9 . d 242 ÷ 5 .

                 e 125 ÷ 2 . f 77 ÷ 4 . g 730 ÷ 3 . h 619 ÷ 3.

            Properties of Division

Let us recall the following properties of division.

« When the divisor is 1, the quotient will be the same number as the dividend.

                      9 ÷ 1 = 9 ; 37 ÷ 1 = 37 ; 215 ÷ 1 = 215
