Punctuation makes our expression clearer and easier to follow. We use stops
or marks of punctuation to separate sentences and their elements to
clarify their meanings.
Put the correct punctuation mark in the blank.
1. Did you see the penguin
2. Wow It’s huge
3. The penguin ate a lot of fish
4. His belly grew bigger and bigger
5. Be quiet so you do not scare him
6. Where did the penguin go
7. It walked away on the ice
8. Can you walk on ice
9. The penguin slide across the ice

Punctuation is used to create sense, clarity and stress in sentences.
We will now learn the various uses of punctuation marks.
Full stop (.)
G It is used at the end of an imperative or assertive sentence.
Read the following examples:
1. I go to school by bus. (Assertive sentence)
2. Learn the poem by heart. (Imperative sentence)
G It is used after initials or abbreviations.
