Types of Sentences
There are five types of sentences.
Assertive or Declarative Sentences Interrogative Sentences
Imperative Sentences Exclamatory Sentences Optative Sentences
G Assertive or Declarative sentences make a declaration or statement. They
always end with a full stop ( ). They are of two types: .
a) Affirmative Sentences b) Negative Sentences

Affirmative sentences do not contain negative words like no not none ,
neither never, etc. They are positive in nature. Negative sentences contain
negative words like no , not , none , neither , never etc.
Read the following examples:
1. The birds were chirping on the tree. (Affirmative )
2. He does not go to school at 8 O’clock. (Negative )
G Interrogative sentences always ask a question. They end with a question mark ( ).?
Formation of Interrogative Sentences
There are two ways of making interrogative sentences.
G Starting the sentence with an auxiliary verb.
G Starting the sentence with a question word, like
who how where what why which, , , , , etc.

G Is it air-conditioned?
