We use quotation marks to show that we are repeating someone’s words just the way they
said it and not summarizing or saying what they said in our own words. We put a comma
inside the closing quotation mark if the sentence continues.
If it does not, we end with a full stop.
For example:
“We have to leave for the competition in five minutes,” announced the teacher.
