Prepositional Phrase
Read the following sentences carefully.
Give this package to the person at the desk .
The car is moving under the bridge .
The coloured words are called prepositional phrases . A prepositional phrase consists of a
preposition and its object which can be a verb, noun or pronoun.
In the above examples, preposition ‘at’ and ‘under’ have their object ‘desk’ and ‘bridge’,
respectively.
A. In the following sentences underline the prepositional phrases.
1. We saw a donkey with an old man.
2. The window beside which Reena was sitting has been shut.
3. There was a basket of yellow marigolds near the edge of the stage.
4. The house on the hill was destroyed in the storm.
5. The book on the table was stolen.
6. The boat was sailing across the river.
7. She put her bag under the rack of books.
8. The monkey was made to show tricks for money.
9. Harish was trying to jump over the bridge.
10. Children waved to the helicopter flying in the sky.
B. Change the tense of the following sentences as directed.
1. Ritu is going to school. (Past Cont.)
2. Salim will have prepared his project by the evening. (Present Perfect)
3. Children have been playing in the ground since morning. (Past Perfect)
