You must have been told by your parents several times that you must never
eat anything that is uncovered or buy street food from hawkers . Do you know
why you are told so?
It’s because things which are uncovered or unhygienically covered are fly
infected.
Flies, as you know, carry various germs which make you sick. But how?
Flies have sticky pads on the underside of
their claws and hair on their legs. These sticky
pads and hairy legs pick up filth from
wherever the fly sits and these then get
transferred to the place or substance it sits on
next.
The common housefly is a small creature
in size, but the amount of suffering and
deaths it can cause, cannot be competed by
even an army. It causes sufferings to people
as it spreads a number of diseases with
the help of its hairy feet and legs. This
happens because it feeds as well as
breeds in filthy places.
The sticky pad of fly helps it to walk
upside down on the ceiling with utter
ease. These prevent it from falling off the
ceiling or wherever else it may be
walking.
hawkers : street sellers
unhygienically : dirty, causing diseases
claws : sharp curved nails of an animal’s or bird’s feet
